TIMS mid-term excursion to the Czech Republic
29th of August – 6th of September 2009
Organisers: Lise Andersen, TIMS Scandinavia and Mgr. Ondřej Merta, Technickeho muzea in Brno
in collaboration with Ing. Miroslav Břínek, Technickeho muzea and ing. Jan Doubek, Sekce Větrné Mlýny.

The organisers’ intension is to make a varied program with grinding mills, saw mills, hammer mills and roller mills. We will see both water- and wind-powered, and both older and newer mills. The Czech Republic is a part of the very early industrialised Central Europe, and early they had a developed milling industry as well as a large number of machinery manufacturers – the most famous being PROKOP in Pardubice.
Viktor Kaplan, familiar to everybody because of his Kaplan turbine, although being an Austrian by birth, was living and working in Brno.
But we also want to present to you the different types of Bohemian and Moravian landscapes, and last but not least we want to present to you a country of very hospitable and informal people (both in- and outside the mills).
